Trappers’ Rendezvous 2025 January 17 – 19 Info and Tips

Thousands of Boy Scouts from across the Midwest come to Trappers’ Rendezvous to try their hand at braving the bitter cold for the annual winter camping trip called the Trappers Rendezvous. The event’s ties to the historical fur trading era (the “Rendezvous” refers to the annual gatherings of trappers and traders in the early 1800s) give it a unique atmosphere that blends outdoor adventure with historical education. Today, Trappers’ Rendezvous Scout Camp continues to provide a memorable setting for youth to engage in outdoor activities, make lifelong friendships, and create lasting memories while developing leadership and survival skills in a supportive, scenic environment.

Besides the traditional feasts,
reunions, feats-o’-skill, and tall tales, there will be:

  • Scout’s Chili and Spam Cook-off
  • B-B Gun Range
  • Black powder rifle shooting
  • Archery
  • Hawk throw
  • Tribe of Quivira
  • Hide Hangers Holler
  • Flint & Steel Fire Start
  • Trapper’s Village
  • Buzzard’s Gulch
  • Ark River Trading Co.
  • Red Dog Saloon
  • Trading, trading, trading
  • John Colter’s Run
  • “Have you seen the Mountain Men?”
  • Patch-trading extravaganza
  • National Scout Shop
  • SPL/SM – Crew President/Advisor Meetings
  • Thawin’ With The Commissioners

Trading is the most popular event at Trappers and that is how it was in the 1800’s, back then they did not have throwing stars, car radios, and Pokémon cards to name a few items. Items like these make it look more like a garage sale not a rendezvous event.

How do you become a Boy Scout?

Meet the age requirements. Be a boy who is 11 years old, or one who has completed the fifth grade or earned the Arrow of Light Award and is at least 10 years old, but is not yet 18 years old. Complete a Boy Scout application and health history signed by your parent or guardian.

Here’s a general outline of how it typically works in the United States with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA):

1. Find a Local Troop: Look for a local Boy Scout troop or unit in your area. You can find information through the Boy Scouts of America website or by contacting a local scout council.

2. Contact the Troop: Reach out to the troop leaders or the troop committee. They can provide information on the next steps and any upcoming meetings or events where you can learn more about the troop.

3. Attend a Meeting: Visit a troop meeting or event. This will give you a chance to see how the troop operates, meet the leaders and other Scouts, and get a feel for whether it’s a good fit.

4. Submit an Application If you decide you want to join, you’ll need to complete a membership application. This usually involves filling out some forms and providing basic information about yourself.

5. Participate in Activities: Once you’re a member, you’ll start participating in troop meetings, camping trips, service projects, and other activities.

6. Work on Advancements: As you participate, you’ll work towards earning merit badges and ranks, following the Boy Scouts’ advancement program.

Troop 577 Wichita KS welcomes you!

Joining a scouting organization is a great way to learn new skills, make friends, and contribute to your community. Each local troop may have its own specific processes, so it’s a good idea to get in touch with them directly for the most accurate information.
